Colour
A defined colour value, specified precisely enough to be reproduced without matching by eye.
The type
What it is
Colour is where the shared library shows its point most clearly. It belongs almost entirely to the Brand Core, and yet it is the same kind of attribute as any other — a value with a format and a source.
Precision is the whole of it. A colour described as “our yellow” will be reproduced differently by every supplier who reads it.
How it is recorded
A hex value as the source of truth, with the print and screen equivalents where both are used.
Examples
- #ffd327
- #1a1a2e
- Pantone equivalent for print
The usual mistake
Naming a colour without a value. Everyone agrees on the name and disagrees on the colour.
