What it produces
The artefact the phase has to deliver before the next one starts.
The part
What it is
A brief, a drawing set, a specification, a signed contract, an approval. This is the definition of the phase that survives contact with a real project.
Where a phase produces nothing identifiable, it is usually two phases badly joined, or a period of waiting that belongs in the duration rather than in the sequence.

Each attribute is one of the framework’s shared types. What a date is, and how it is written, is defined once for the whole model — the note here says what it means in this particular place.
