The schedule

Planned work with protected windows — because a window that is always surrendered to production is not a schedule.

The deliverable

What it is

Maintenance windows are the first thing given up when production is behind, which is exactly when the equipment is under most stress.

Deferred maintenance is not avoided maintenance. It is rescheduled to a time chosen by the equipment, which is reliably during peak demand.
