The distribution
How published work actually divides across the pillars, and what will not sort into any of them — because the second number is an editorial strategy nobody chose.
The deliverable
What it is
Sorting a quarter of output into the pillars takes an afternoon and settles arguments that otherwise recur for years. The split is rarely the intended one, and the pieces that will not sort are always more numerous than expected.
An even split is not the goal. A pillar being established should be over-served and one merely maintained should not — but the imbalance ought to be chosen rather than discovered.

An even split across pillars is not the goal. An unchosen split is the problem.
The other components in pillars
The pillars
The three or four subjects themselves, each with what it rules out — because a subject that excludes nothing is a category the organisation happens to publish in.
LearnThe claim to it
Why the organisation can credibly own each pillar, and who is already there — because a subject anyone could claim goes to whoever publishes most.
